PROCESS OF COMMUNICATION Communication is a transaction, There are at least two parties to it. These are the sender of the message called the communicator and the receiver of the message called the audience. What is sent is the message. Thus these are the three basic elements in communication A message may be sent but the audience may ignore it. In that case, communication would not have taken place. Encoding The message will be understood by the audience if it is appropriate form. Putting the message in appropriate signals is called encoding. Decoding The receiver picks up the signals from the channel and decodes it. Decoding consists of transforming the signals into the message. The same is being done by the reader of a printed page, he is translating the printed signs into words. If the signals are carried by sound waves, the receiver decodes them to a verbal message.


The Audience The destination of the message is the audience. The decoded message reaches the audience, who interprets it in order to find out the information that the message contains.
